The CODED Project Education Kit explores modes of expression used within youth culture and contemporary art through the work of eleven artists selected for the exhibition CODED. The exhibition and project is an initiative of the Blacktown Arts Centre. Located in Western Sydney, Australia, the Centre has developed a reputation for its dedication to the development of contemporary interdisciplinary and cross-arts practices since opening its doors in 2002. Recent developments in information and communication technologies, the emergence of diverse youth-based subcultures and counter cultures and the way these cultural groups have employed public spaces as the vehicle for communication through highly visual and sophisticated means forms the basis from which the artists chosen either responded to the project or the way in which their practices are informed and developed.
