In January 2013, the point deductions used to penalize drivers has changed (improved!) significantly. While we refresh the app, please refer below for the most important changes. Note: when 12 points are deducted, your license is suspended. All 12 points will be deducted if you do any of the following: Â· Exceed the posted speed limit by more than 50%; Â· Drive without a license plate, or drive with the license plate covered, stained, forged or damaged; Â· Drive with forged documents, including, but not limited to a driverâ€™s license or blue book; Â· Drive after drinking any amount of alcohol; or, Â· Drive in reverse or make a U-turn on the highway. 6 points will be deducted if you do any of the following: Â· Run a red light; Â· Run a yellow light (temporarily warning only); Â· Park on the highway; Â· Drive in the emergency lane; or Â· Fail to yield right-of-way to a school bus. 3 points will be deducted if you do any of the following: Â· Drive slower than the posted speed limit on the highway; Â· Do not drive in the correct lane; Â· Do not reduce speed before pedestrian crossing (zebra lines); Â· Do not put required warning signs on the roadside during vehicle breakdown; or Â· Fail to renew your annual inspection in a timely manner. 2 points will be deducted if you do any of the following: Â· Use a handheld cell phone while driving; Â· Do not stop before an intersection; or Â· Do not wear your seatbelt while driving. 1 point will be deducted if you do the following: Â· Do not use your vehicle lights properly.
