The â€œHeatRecovery+: self-assessment toolâ€ [app] supports assessment of the potential for waste heat recovery in a business environment. It is a quick and easy tool that will, according to the completed questionnaire, provide an indication for suitability of waste heat recovery for your business. It will give arguments whether or not to set-up a project team to conduct feasibility study. In addition, the app gives leads where to go for further information. This app is supported under the EU co-funded project (DG Enterprise, Sustainable Industry Low Carbon [SILC] program), ER>ER, (Energy Recovery > Emission Reduction) that is jointly conducted by Finnfjord, a leading ferro-alloy producer from Norway, and Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes (EEIP). The objective of the project is to help energy intensive process- and manufacturing industries in Europe to lower their carbon intensity, reduce costs during EU ETS 3rd phase (the EU Emission Trading Scheme) and improve competitiveness. Background: The app is based on real business experience: 1.A waste heat recovery installation in operation (Finnfjord, investment > mâ‚¬ 100, 340 GWh recovered annually) and 2.The discussion & sharing of this best practice example with entire EEIP project network covering many major energy intensive industries across all sectors to validate its applicability in other sectors than ferro-alloy/steel. The HeatRecovery+ app is the first app of its kind also representing EEIPÂ´s ambition of using new communication tools. As the app currently covers only high temperature heat, EEIP has invited the energy intensive industry to join the EU Industrial Energy Recovery Partnership (EU-IERP) following the project to include promotion of use of industrial low and medium heat, and energy recovery from other media (surfaces, chemical gasses and fluids,...).
