MiscueCalc is a suite of reading-related tools for teachers including calculators, timers, audio recording, and report writing. Designed primarily for Elementary Educators, Reading Specialists, and Special Educators, MiscueCalc features a familiar calculator-like interface for calculating accuracy, rate, self-corrections, semantically acceptable miscues, and percentage of error types. Accuracy calculates percentage of words read correctly and incorrectly. Rate calculates words per minute using minutes and/or seconds. Self-corrections calculates a ratio of self corrections per number of words read. Semantically acceptable miscues calculates a percentage of semantically acceptable miscues out of total miscues. Percentage of error types calculates percentages of omissions, insertions, substitutions, and repetitions per words read. There is a 1 minute timer and a 3 minute timer. MiscueCalc can record and playback audio. MiscueCalc can generate a report based on the calculations and other information including date, passage, and level. Yet another tool averages three values, useful for calculating the average number of words read from the beginning, middle, and end of a text. A different tool, using a frequency counting interface, counts omissions, insertions, substitutions, and repetitions via taps, then calculates a ratio of each of these error types per total errors tapped. Furthermore, a text-based background information section provides details on miscue analysis and a reference for more knowledge on the topic.
