PHMahjong is a Philippine version of the popular Chinese game called Mahjong. PHMahjong is more of a laid-back relax style of playing Mahjong that tries to emulate the way it is played in real life. From the shuffling of the tiles, stacking them up, throwing of the dice to see who the dealer is, to the distribution of the tiles by 2 sets of 8 starting on the dealer side, and the removal and replacing of the Flowers, up to the game flow and end of the game. This app also tries to teach you how to play Filipino Mahjong by guiding you on what to throw or pick or grab and when to do it or not do it. But unlike other Mahjong apps, this will not help you choose what to do to win like knowing what tile to pick, grab or discard. It will give you some form of hints, but the analyzing is up to you. Anyone not familiar with the Filipino terms used while playing Mahjong, this app tries to translate them. There is a switch in the app settings that can replace those translation back to its familiar words. Like 'Bunot' is StackPicked, 'Paningit' is Wedge (as in wedged in the middle), 'Sagasa' is Snag (like your Pong hit a snag), 'Escalera' is Straight (like in straight flush in Poker), 'JaiAlai' is 5Wins, 'Todas' is Win (or I Win) and 'Bisaklat' is DealerSweep. There is a 'Rules' selection on the menu that will explain more about the game like it's objective, as well as the scoring, payouts, scenarios and other helpful information. Basically, especially for those who has not played any form of Mahjong but know Poker, you will be using these terms a lot: 'Pong' which is 3-of-a-Kind, 'Kang', is 4-of-a-kind and 'Chow' which is 3 of the same suit but in sequence (like 1-2-3, 5-6-7). Hopefully this app serves as a fun as well as an educational game.
